Visiting Jordan

We hadn’t yet visited Jordan at UCSC this quarter, so we made reservations at a cheap hotel, jumped in our car and headed out.

About five and a half hours later we were in Santa Cruz knocking at Jordan’s door. After the hugs we chilled for a bit then headed down to 99 Bottles for dinner and drinks (food was surprisingly good), but more importantly to watch the last game between the Lakers and Jazz. Lakers won, enough said. After the game we called it an early night, big day tomorrow.

The next morning we went to our usual breakfast spot Zacharys. Jordan had planned a marathon tour of the campus so we put on our hiking shoes and drove to the campus. Jordan showed us all the hot spots, libraries and buildings where he has classes and/or labs. He also showed us the pool where he began his career as a scuba diver and the lab where he is a research assistant. The tour took the entire day.

That night we ate at O’mei, our favorite Chinese restaurant in Santa Cruz. The food was as good as ever, but they now add a mandatory 10% surcharge for there cooks. If you tip 15% for the wait staff this is an additional 25% added to the bill. We didn’t like this and left a note about our feelings on the bill. Their justification for the charge, which they had in their menu, was laughable. Don’t know whether we will eat there again. It’s a shame because the food is good.

After dinner we went to see Iron Man. Solid fun movie.

The next day Jordan had a study group for genetics, so Geri and I head to Capitola and relaxed by the beach. We later met up with Jordan and went to the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, ate on the pier, and strolled around in the ‘Casino. ‘

After, we drove Jordan back to his apartment, said our goodbyes and headed home. We decided to drive down Highway 1. It added a few hours to the trip, but the scenery is stunning.
